I Hear That!

Does your baby have access to sound all waking hours?

Think about it

Sound is everywhere and has meaning. It’s our job to teach our babies about the sounds in their world.

Give baby words to make meaning from what he is hearing.

How a child hears is how he learns to talk.

Did you know your ear doesn’t hear?

The ear is a doorway to the brain where sounds are given meaning (hearing). The ear must be opened completely with hearing technology to all sound to reach the brain. The ear is important because it allows the brain to receive the information it needs to develop clear, intelligible speech.

Here is what you can do

  • Children with typical hearing hear 24 hours a day. It is important that we aim for 10-12 hours of wearing their working technology everyday to help our children achieve age appropriate speech and spoken language development. REMEMBER: Eyes open, technology on!
  • Make sure your child’s hearing technology is working properly because we want what he hears to be the best quality possible. Wax in the earmold, water in the tubing, a hole in the tubing, a cracked earmold, a dirty filter, a loose cable…can cause distortion of the sound.
  • If your child is not learning and communicating at the same rate as other children, contact Babies Can’t Wait, Ga. PINES, your local school system for children over 3 years old, or Georgia Mobile Audiology for resources.
