Aim High!
Where do you see your baby in the future?
Think about it
What is the desired outcome for your child?
Who would you like your child to be able to communicate with?
When would you like to see your child reading?
where we’re headed tells us what we need to do today.
A deaf or hard of hearing child can reach age appropriate milestones in language and literacy. Your child needs full access to language(s) all waking hours and lots of LOVING signs/words.
Here is what you can do
Draw a picture of your vision of your child’s future. Think about where they work, who they socialize with, or what type of house they live in. Now make a list of 3 to 5 ways to help your child make that picture come true.
Make a list of five wishes you have for your child. Pick one wish. Think about a few ways you can move closer to the goal. Write down what you can do and who can support you and your child. Place reminders around your home, and read the reminders often. This will keep your eye on the prize of language and literacy for your child.
Communicate often with your child’s early interventionist, teachers, audiologists, speech pathologists, and other professionals to make sure your child is communicating and learning at the same rate as other children.
If your child is not learning and communicating at the same rate as other children, contact Babies Can’t Wait, Ga. PINES, your local school system for children over 3 years old, or Georgia Mobile Audiology for resources.
